I have been searching for the city that has dominated the news for days. Google Maps shows a bird’s-eye view of a port and a factory—perhaps the ironworks. I located the theater, it is not nice at all, surrounded by housing estates. The ten-story buildings could easily belong to some Hungarian city.
But this cannot be the city that the news is about, there the buildings have been destroyed to the ground… Or perhaps it is. The maps haven’t been updated yet.
Where is this city, truly? Does it exist somewhere else?
Mariupol… Aleppo… Moscow… Budapest…
In its final state, the first sculpture will be displayed upside down, mounted on metal legs. The second relief-like sculpture, representation of the destroyed city will sit on top. Beneath the table, at ground level, an acrylic mirror will reflect the intact houses.
